1351 Miles – Stress crack in windshield

To this point everything was electronic…

I go to get the car on 12/13. Return the old and ugly rental van, get in my 2018 Pacifica Hybrid and start driving off. Right away I notice a big crack in the windshield where there was none before. So I stop and go see my service adviser. He tell me he knows and that it was there when I left the car. He tells me that when they went to lift the car they notices a small crack in the black area of the windshield.

There was no crack before and I know I didn’t hit a rock. Besides, where the crack was, a rock on the road couldn’t have hit, it was protected and below the hood and wipers. The service adviser wanted me to call my insurance and claim in there since there is no deductible in FL but that wasn’t right. It happened while in service so they should be responsible. We spoke to the manager and he quickly said that it seemed like a stress crack since it started down at the bottom and got so much bigger. They opted to keep the car and gave me another rental until they can replace the windshield. I called Chrysler to update my case.

The next day, they called me to tell me that Chrysler was covering the repair as a defect but the windshield would not come in until the 28th of December, to keep the rental until then.

I got a follow up call from Chrysler confirming the same information. I took the chance to complain that here I bought a $50k car but am stuck driving a tiny $25k car for 3 of the 6 weeks I will have had it.

Once this service is done, car will have been in the shop for 19 days…

To be updated in 2018.

Update 1/4/2018: Original date windshield was going to arrive was December 31. They called me to push that date to Jan 2, then Jan 4, now Jan 10… during this time, the radio module came in and was replaced.
